EDU305 Spring 2006 Assignments:

All assignments are due by 8:00am the next Tuesday unless if it is stated differently.

Assignment #1

         Purchase a USB drive and bring it to class next week

         Take the Computer Competency Test to assess your basic computer ability.  If you don¨t pass, please consider taking IS100 instead of this class now.

         Use MSWord to create a document that resembles a webpage. The page should have:

o        your name (e.g. Welcome to __________'s website),

o        a table of contents (e.g. teaching philosophy, teaching experience, educational technology, etc.),

o        some clip arts,

o        and text in different fonts and colors (I need to see that you know how to change text font and color.)

         Save the file in the USB drive and bring it to class next week

This assignment is due in class next week.

Tips:

         Ejecting USB drive
Before unplugging your USB drive, click on it once and then go to "File" and Eject, or just drag it to trash.

         Logging out
Click on the apple on the top left corner of the desktop. Choose log out.

 

Assignment #2

         Save your Word page into "Webpage Complete" format. (Not "Single File Web Page" or "Web Page Filtered") The file extension should automatically become ".htm". (Not "mht")

         Name your file as "index" so the complete file name should be "index.htm"

         Create an educational technology page and at least one other webpage.

         Each page should have clip arts (or WordArt)

         Save and upload your files to the internship (using Fetch)

Tips:

         Refer to the "Word_for_Web.pdf document under Course Materials to get help in completing these tasks.

         To open this document, double-click on its link in Blackboard and then save it inside your USB drive.  Then, open your USB drive and double-click on it.

 

Assignment #3

         Go through the "Word_for_Web.pdf document to make sure you know how to do all tasks

         Modify the following elements in your Educational Technology page:

o        Background

o        Table (pictures inside table, no border, nice)

o        Link to external website, other pages, and email

         Your website must be online.

 

Assignment #4: Digital-imaging

         Insert two photos into your Educational Technology page.

         These two photos should demonstrate the various photo-retouching techniques that you have learned in class.

         These photos should be from either scanning or digital camera, rather than the Internet.

 

Assignment #5: Electronic Portfolio

Develop the framework of a standards-based electronic portfolio in your website by:

         Creating ten webpages each stating the description and performance criteria of one teaching standard.

         Create another page that list the links to the ten pages.

         Create a link in your Educational Technology page that links to this "Standards" or "Portfolio" page

Assignment #6: Storyboard

Each video production group needs to hand in a storyboard.

 

Assignment #7: Completed Video

Complete your video production according to the principles taught in class.  Bring the tape to class.  Also, check out a digital video camera and a 4-pin to 6-pin (Mac) Firewire cable to class. 


Assignment #8: Edited Video

Each group needs to have their 3-minute educational video in IMovie by class time.  The video should have the following elements

         Title page

         Transitions

         Music

         End credits 


Assignment #9: Video in DVD and online

1)      Post the video online under Educational Technology
Tips: IMovie
Share QuickTime Email format Save the video in the same folder as your Educational Technology webpage Open your Educational Technology webpage in Word to make a link to this video Upload both the webpage (with its associated folder) and the movie file to the server. 

2)      Make your video into a DVD using iDVD
- Use an iDVD template (If you are using another DVD creation program, you can use a template from that program too.)
- Write down the title of your video and the names of your group members on the DVD before handing it in.


Assignment #10: PowerPoint

Create a PowerPoint presentation online that includes graphics and the clickable menu as instructed in class. Although slide transitions and bullet animations will not appear in the online version, you should include that in your original PowerPoint.

 

Assignment #11: Technology Standards

         Create a link in your Educational Technology webpage called "Technology Standards for Teachers". Link: http://cnets.iste.org/teachers/t_stands.html

         Read these standards and the Performance Profiles for Teachers (link near the top right corner of the page)

         Write a one-paragraph reaction to these standards and post it under the link that you have just created.(What is your general reflection of these standards? How do they apply to you? Are you meeting them? What do you need to learn? etc.)
