John L. Bailey came to BYUH in 1997 after teaching for 20 years at the high school level in New Zealand where his subject areas were mathematics and computing. John completed his PhD in 1985 in the Instructional Science department at the School of Education at Brigham Young University - Provo. John teaches education courses, mentors students as the Dean of the School of Education and directs the International Teacher Education Program (ITEP).

John and Lorretta met here at the Church College of Hawaii (now BYUH) in 1974. They are the parents of 6 children including 5 returned missionaries, 2 BYUH graduates, 3 daughters-in-law and 9 grandchildren.
