Chair's Message

Karen LathamTeaching is a noble profession that changes the lives of young people everywhere. There can be no doubt that a great teacher can inspire, educate, counsel, and lead forward the youth of today. The teacher is pivotal in such that enabling a student to leave lower education systems with confidence, ready for the outside world of real life. We believe in the Principle of Agency, and to gain this a student needs skills and knowledge such that they are free to make these choices when they leave pre-university schooling. Consequently, the School of Education at Brigham Young University Hawaii exists to prepare and place outstanding teachers both internationally and domestically. We desire these teachers to be highly skilled with sound practice and knowledge at their fingertips matched to professional dispositions. We also desire these teachers to be strong ethically and morally such that they can be role models for all youth. Our faculty within the department understand these goals and work closely together to accomplish them.

Perhaps you are someone who wishes to make a difference daily in people's lives. Contact us, we can help.
